The Exponents 30 Year Anniversary Concert Tour

Date: 29/03/2012
Full Description:
To further celebrate the band’s 30 year anniversary, November 14th will see the release of Why Does Love Do This To Me: The Exponents Greatest Hits – a collection of the 24 biggest hits from one of New Zealand’s most loved bands. This also includes a brand new track, ‘It’s Rugby’, which was recorded specifically for this release. Front man Jordan Luck can’t wait to get on the road and visit some of his favourite haunts with the band (Brian Jones, Michael “Harry” Harallambi, & Dave Gent): "A 30th Anniversary Tour? I never saw that coming. From happy adversity to sublime celebration, I'm just pleased we're alive. We have always been in touch. Me, David & Brian just celebrated our 50th birthdays together so being 30 years old seems like being a Pup. The songs however seem like they were written today or at least in the last week. That is the way I imagine we will play them too.“ “Touring?” he continues, “Me, as most will know, I am match fit. Dave and Harry are in impressive health. Harry is still a skateboarding genius & David musters his llamas every morning. Brian has been dedicating his time to The School Of Gretsch where he tutors. If we play well (we will) & behave well (we may not) I prognosticate a tour in 2021." Tickets are on sale from Monday 21st November, show information is available from the band’s official website http://theexponents.com/. The 24 track greatest hits album is on sale now!

Easter Family Festival

Date: 08/04/2012
Full Description:
Mount Mainstreet, supported by Classic Hits, the Bay News and Addictive DJs bring you their Easter Family Festival this Easter Sunday. The streets of Downtown the Mount will come alive with loads of free family fun and entertainment from 10am to 3pm. The road will be closed to traffic so it will be a safe haven for families, prams, and young kids to wander and enjoy the activities. There will be 2 huge slides for the bigger kids, and a small bouncy castle for little tots. There’s free face painting and temporary tattoos, as well as a kids' disco, thanks to Addictive DJs. They will certainly help burn off the energy they have stored from the candy floss, doughnuts and popcorn at the disco! Funky local band Eclipse and RPM, along with popular singer Callum Aitken will entertainment the oldies with their talents. On the street you’ll find performers like Papa Crete, Pops Pumpernickel, and B Looney da Clown all ‘clowning around’. They will be accompanied by Troupe Waihi with ballooners, stilt walkers, giant rubbish bins, masks and mimes, and street specialist Monsieur Buffo! So much to see and do in Downtown the Mount this Easter Sunday. Top it all off with a visit to the farmers' market and you’ve got a great day of free fun for the whole family.

Thundercat Racing

Date: 14/04/2012
Full Description:
Thundercat racing is a high-adrenalin, high-action sport with explosive wave jumping and tight competitive surf racing in a tunnel hulled inflatable boat. The crew consists of a driver steering the boat and a co-pilot who uses their weight to stabilise the craft and obtain optimum speed. Thundercats have taken New Zealand by storm, entertaining thousands of spectators at some of the most popular beaches around the country such as Whangamata, Waihi, Waipu, Papamoa, Pauanui, Orewa, Takapuna Beach, Piha and Mount Maunganui. Thundercat racing has been seen on various TV programs over the years such as the Nestle Lion Bar Thundercat Series aired on TV One's Countrywide Grandstand, Prime TV and Sky Sport in 1998; the Challenge Series aired on TV One's Countrywide Grandstand & Sky Sport in 1999, and the 2001 Trans-Tasman series aired on Suzuki Sportzone & Sky TV in 2001/2002. The NZ Championship Series was seen in 2003 and in early 2005 the King of the Cape SurfHaul at 90 Mile Beach was seen on SKY TV. Surf cross racing is run traditionally at surf beaches which provide spectacular jumps, thrills and spills with boats reaching 80kph in the surf. Surf-cross races start with a ‘Le-mans' style start where the driver dashes out into knee deep water to the co-pilot holding the boat. The teams then battle it out over several laps on a rectangular shaped course running parallel to the shoreline in as little as 300mm of water. The finish is dramatic as boats skid up the beach for co-pilots to leap out the front of their boats and run to the finish line

Shihad - The Meanest

Date: 06/04/2012
Full Description:
With a catalogue of singles and hits that easily fill a double CD it’s no surprise then that as Shihad announce a tour to celebrate The Meanest, they include the notation that there’ll be no support; instead laying out a 100+ minute set to give enough time to cover the bulk of hits and favourites from their entire catalogue. The tour set is drafted to present the two dominant personalities of the Shihad live experience. The first half set sees Shihad working at close quarters front of stage in homage to the close proximity, in-your-face intensity, of the rock bars and clubs where their music was informed. This part of the story recreates the unrefined fervour of the countless early career shit-hole gigs that gave potency to the band's live performance, while presenting the raw classics from their debut EP Devolve and their first three albums Churn, Killjoy and the self-titled Shihad. The band’s work ethic and commitment was cast in this gritty reality of hauling gear up and down stairs, in and of venues on a merry go round of one night stands from Tutukaka to Thames, and from Poland to a small town in Texas. Reflecting the band in transition, a second stanza embraces the big stage era where Shihad grew wings and a swagger and ramped up production. Incendiary live performances followed and nothing short of a legend status bestowed as they strode the many arena stages at home and abroad - the Big Day Out, Rhythm & Vines, Rippon, Rock am Ring, Roskilde etc. Albums from The General Electric, through to Ignite comprise this era and the many live favourites and radio hits within are given a thorough belting by Shihad while fittingly accompanied by aforementioned ramped up production. Shihad - The Meanest. A not to be missed, one time only opportunity to see and hear Shihad carve their own way through one of New Zealand’s great rock n roll catalogues.
